2023Mandarin Teacher Summer Workshop in Taiwan

Education Divisions of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Houston have organized USA Mandarin teacher summer workshop in order to enhance American Chinese language teachers’ professional development, enrich Taiwanese local culture, and explore the understanding of Taiwanese society. Based on the previous successful programs, the 2023 workshop will continue towards the same goal to provide American Chinese teachers the premier training in National Taitung University, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages and National Dong Hwa University in Taiwan.

The program offers Chinese Teaching Strategy and Activity Design; Hi-Tech Application and Multi-Media Application on Chinese Teaching; Calligraphy Instruction and Lesson Plan Design; Culture-Based Instructional Applications; Visiting National Taitung Art Museum, Binhai Park, Taitong Culture and Ecology, Taiwanese Indigenous Peoples’ Community, and the Forest Museum; Experiencing Hot Air Balloon Activity and Taiwanese Hot Spring Culture in Chihpen Century Hotel.

Basic Qualifications: Elementary school to University level Chinese teachers in U.S.A. Priority given to teachers who have not participated within three years

(June ,2020 to May, 2023). Maximum capacity of 20 participants. The TECO in Houston will make final decision.

• Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity and proficiency with teaching Traditional Chinese Characters.
• Duration : June 26 to July 11, 2023 (total two weeks)
• Application deadline : April 20, 2023
• Program fee: All applicants must pay the program fee 450 USD (non-refundable) by April 20, 2023. The fee will cover tuition, handouts, local transportation, breakfast, lunch, accommodation, but dinner must be paid by participants. The fee may be changed depending on the funding from Ministry Of Education in Taiwan. Air tickets and travel insurance fees are paid by participants.
• Workshop venue: National Taitung University, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages and National Dong Hwa University in Taiwan.

The teaching training program must have at least 15 applicants, otherwise the workshop will be cancelled, and the program fee will be refunded.
Applicants will be notified around the end of April.
